As we’ve mentioned earlier, the smartphone will first go on sale exclusively for Amazon Prime members at 4:30pm IST on November 21 via the online retailer.

OnePlus 5T specifications and design

OnePlus 5T has a 6-inch display, the largest for the company, and comes with 18:9 aspect ratio. The fingerprint sensor has been moved to the back, and the front camera can be used to unlock the handset using facial recognition. The face recognition technology will map 100 points in the users’ faces to unlock the device. As for the design, the design features a bezel-less look, more ergonomic design, and the Alert Slider is still on the left edge. Of course, the 3.5mm audio jack has been retained, while wireless charging has not been included.

The camera has been upgraded too, with the OnePlus 5T getting dual rear cameras with f/1.7 aperture and 27.22mm focal length for better lowlight photos. The primary sensor has 16-megapixel resolution and the secondary one 20-megapixel. This camera comes with improved portrait mode, low-light photography, and video stabilisation compared to its predecessor, the company says.

OnePlus 5T specifications on other fronts, however, is the same as that of its predecessor. This includes the Snapdragon 835 processor, 3300mAh battery with Dash Charge, 16-megapixel front camera, and 6GB RAM + 64GB and 8GB + 128GB storage options. However, OnePlus says the optimisations it has introduced ensure the new handset loads apps and games faster than any other smartphone in the market

As for the cameras on the OnePlus 5T – OnePlus has decided to update the dual rear camera setup on the smartphone, making changes from the setup we saw on the OnePlus 5. The primary sensor remains identical to the OnePlus 5, being a 16-megapixel Sony IMX398 sensor with 1.12-micron pixels, and an aperture of f/1.7. However, it appears to have an upgraded focal length of 27.22mm.

The secondary camera, which was previously powered by a 20-megapixel Sony IMX350 sensor and paired with a telephoto lens, has now been replaced with a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376K sensor. It retains the 1-micron pixel size, however, upgrades the aperture to f/1.7 and focal length to 27.22mm – the same as the primary sensor. The rear camera setup is accompanied by dual-LED flash, and can record 4K video at 30fps, apart from 1080p video at 60fps.

You can unlock it with your face

Not only is the 16 MP front-facing shooter pretty weighty in the megapixel department, but OnePlus says it can also recognize your face, even when the display is off. This means that all you need to do is hit the power button and the OnePlus 5T should take you straight to the homescreen.

Interestingly, OnePlus stresses that this method of getting into your phone is less secure than the other available security options, so keep that in mind if you are skeptical about facial recognition security on smartphones. Even so, with the Galaxy S8 and iPhone X featuring their own takes on iris and facial recognition, the input method is bound to increase in popularity as time passes, so in that aspect, the OnePlus 5T is well-positioned for the future.
