Although Xiaomi had left nothing to the imagination, with regards to what’s in store, we now have the full picture and pricing details of the Redmi 6 Pro: a phone that seems to be an extension of the recently launched Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A.
Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro, the successor to the popular Redmi Note 5 Pro, was launched in China late on Sunday evening.
Specifications
Processor: The Redmi 6 Pro is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor clubbed with Adreno 506 GPU.
RAM: The Redmi 6 Pro will be available in two RAM versions: 3GB and 4GB.
Internal storage: While the 3GB RAM version will ship with 32GB storage, the 4GB RAM version will come with 32 GB and 064GB storage. All versions of the Redmi 6 Pro will support expandable storage of up to 256GB via a dedicated micro-SD card slot.
Screen: The Redmi 6 Pro comes with a 5.84-inch 1080p+ display with a 2280×1080 pixel resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio and 432ppi pixel density.
Rear camera: The Redmi 6 Pro comes with a dual rear camera system. The dual camera module on the back comes with one 12-megapixel sensor (f/2.2) and another 5-megapixel sensor. The dual camera setup is further assisted by PDAF and LED flash. And, it comes with lots and lots of artificial intelligence.
Front camera: On the front, the Redmi 6 Pro comes with a 5-megapixel camera with portrait mode feature and AI face unlock.
Software: The Redmi 6 Pro runs Android Oreo-based MIUI 9.
Battery: The Redmi 6 Pro is backed by a 4,000mAh battery, and charges over standard micro-USB.
Special features
The Redmi 6 Pro is a gradual extension of the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A phones that Xiaomi launched only recently. While the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A phones are powered by MediaTek-based processors, the Redmi 6 Pro comes with a Qualcomm chip. Xiaomi, in theory, can’t bring the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A to India for the following reason. But, it can bring the Redmi 6 Pro, to India.
The naming convention in the case of the Redmi 6 Pro is a tad confusing. It isn’t clear if the Redmi 6 Pro is a Redmi Note 5 or a Redmi Note 5 Pro replacement. It may be a whole new device altogether as well, we can’t say for sure for now.
The Redmi 6 Pro looks like a mashup of the Redmi Note 5 Pro and an iPhone X. The phone looks exactly like the Redmi Note 5 Pro from the back, and from the front, it looks a lot like the iPhone X, only with slightly more bezels. The Redmi 6 Pro, should Xiaomi launch it in India, will become the cheapest phone to rock an iPhone X-style notch.
The Redmi 6 Pro has a dual camera system on the rear — 12MP+5MP — with the secondary lens especially meant for taking portrait shots or photos with shallow depth of field. This setup uses AI to apparently help your portrait shots look better. The front camera is also assisted with AI, and aids in software-based portrait selfies and facial recognition.
The Redmi 6 Pro comes with EIS for videos. Sadly, videos from the rear camera setup is capped at 1080p.
Price and availability
The Redmi 6 Pro has been launched in China at a starting price of CNY 999 which roughly translates to Rs 10,417. This is for the base 3GB RAM and 32GB variant of the Redmi 6 Pro. The 4GB RAM and 32GB storage version will meanwhile sell for CNY 1,199 (roughly Rs 12,498) while the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage version will be available for CNY 1,299 (roughly Rs 13,540).
The Redmi 6 Pro will be available in as many as five colors: black, gold, rose gold, blue and red, from June 26.
